Welcome To Idaho

This site is currently under construction, its been giving me fits, so i will be redoing everything to see if i can get it to cooperate.

I am not the fastest webmaster, but i do my best. Finally have things to work, so i shall keep working to improve on this to & get it to where its searchable & usable.

On March 4, 1863, Idaho became a Territory. It was originally a rectangle shape territory, it originally consisted of all of Idaho, Montana & most of Wyoming. Most of this unwieldy land mass was part of the Washington (state) Territory and the politicians wanted to get rid of a bunch of land to the east of them, which was gaining population due to the gold rushes. This decision would leave Washington Territory more compact & ensure that Olympia would remain the Capital. Idaho's first territorial Legislature met in Lewiston in 1863 & one delegate from present day Montana unwilling to venture over the Bitterroots in the winter time, instead went overland to California & then went by boat up the Pacific & the Columbia & the Snake rivers to the proceedings.
Those first legislators unanimously petitioned Congress to reduce the size of the territory to make it more governable & easier to get around. In 1864, Montana broke away & then in 1868 Wyoming left, leaving the jagged panhandle of the north & nearly a straight edge boundary with Wyoming in the east side of the state.

(**More history for Idaho will be added as time goes on, and this page will also change as time goes on. Please have a little patient's with me, I am a full time working caregiver of an elderly couple, a homeschooling mom of 4, I raise Dairy goats (5 of which get milked daily) & Boer (meat) goats, plus chickens, pigs, horses & a Jersey calf. There's never a dull moment with all these jobs or enough time, not even on days off like today. Now I will be juggling my caregiver time with the wife's new school schedule, plus school will be starting for my kids & we are also going to be going on school adventures which will include foraging for wild edible plants & fruit, taking pictures & adding them to this website as well as learning about the history of the areas we go & explore, there will probably be a separate page for that stuff as we'll be diving into more History facts then what I will put on this page.

Hopefully, anyone homeschooling will want to add this to their history curriculum, this is what i will be doing & I'm hoping to teach my kids far more about Idaho and the entire US, then even what I learned in the 4th grade, several years ago
